In creating this simple but unique necklace I selected a sponge coral cross, turquoise nuggets, butterscotch amber nuggets, 4 mm red coral beads and sterling findings including 3 mm faceted beads and a spring ring clasp. The necklace is nearly 21" in length and the cross is 40 by 30 mm. The amber nuggets are about 3/8" by 1/4" by 1/8" and the turquoise nuggets are slightly smaller.
The sponge coral beads and cross are crafted entirely from chunks of natural sponge coral. They are harvested in the deep sea, cut, ground, polished and color treated to give them that fiery orange glow. Natural variations and lines do occur on them but these only enhance the natural effects of these remarkable beads. Note: Per my coral supplier, "Please be advised that all red hue coral has been through a color enhancing process. This process leaves the coral a deep scarlet red, but unfortunately also subjects the coral to possible color loss due to humidity and heat"
